It is open to students of all grades and types of schools and to professional artists from all over the world. They are required to submit one or more works developing the themes of PEACE, TOLERANCE, fight against any form of racism and of defense of human rights. Each competitor may take part in two ways:
1 FAX [number fax ++39 0427 40898] or E-MAIL JPG format max 1,5 Mb [e-mail: istsuperiore@faxforpeace.it] one or more pictures or works of visual art;
2 send SHORT FILMS AND CARTOONS of maximum 5 minute lenght that could also be broadcast in compressed format to the following e-mail address [istsuperiore@faxforpeace.it]. The videos can be realized in the most common formats (AVI, MPEG, REAL VIDEO, QuICkTIME, VIDEO FOR WINDOWS ecc.) but they must not exceed 8 Mb of space.
When
Works from each competitor (individual artist, student or class) will be accepted starting from Sunday November 30th 2008 at 8.00 a.m. until Saturday February 28th 2009 at 12.00 p.m..
Exhibition
On each work it is necessary to indicate full name, name of school and grade/ class (if students), telephone and fax number and/or E-mail address, city, country.
The works will be exhibited as they are received in an “in progress” exhibition which will open on SuNDAy 30th NOVEMBER, 2008 AT 17.00 A.M. at the Istituto Superiore di Spilimbergo (Via degli Alpini n.1, Spilimbergo, Pordenone, ITALIA). Works must be sent within the 28th February 2009, expiry date at the latest.
Students will also have to specify school address and class attended.
Competitors implicitly authorize the school to reproduce and use their works in the catalogue and with different media for no-profit activities.
The organization cannot be held responsible in case of theft, damage or loss of the works. Works will not be returned or retransmitted to their authors. THE EXHIBITION WILL CLOSE ON MARCH 31st, 2009. A catalogue will be printed reproducing a wide selection of the works received and will later be sent to all competitors free of charge.
The jury
The jury of experts in communication, art critics and representatives of the school world will select 6 works among those received within the expiry date, according to their development of proposed themes and their effectiveness.
Prizes
The following six prizes, will be awarded according to categories:
* best work - Nursery and Primary Schools: E 300;
* best work - Low Secondary Schools: E 300;
* best work - Secondary High Schools: E 300;
* best work - Video or cartoon: E 300;
* best work - Artists: E 300;
* special best work awarded to a satirical or humorous drawing inviting consideration upon human and civil themes dealing with the initiative: E 500;
* special prize, supported by the President of the Italian Republic consisting in a medal, awarded to the school named for the overall quality of the works sent and the relevant importance of the didactic project submitted.

New issue BrazilCartoonNews focuses on Similarity and Plagiarism
Dear Readers,We will try to publish the monthly Brazilcartoonews initially, in digital mode, but already thinking about leading to paper in a close future.This second edition is well illustrated by a team of talented cartoonists that cooperate with the Brazilcartoon: Mattias,Mello and Ray. We want to open space in the following works for other cartoonists beautify our editions. The texts and interviews are also great. Even with almost any content toward the controversial subject that is the similarity and plagiarism of cartoons. We know that for many cartoonists to face their work being assessed is not very pleasant. Then we could leave this issue that bothers not only the cartoonists, as the organizers and jurors of events of humor aside and deal with less controversial teams. But thinking well, it is important to note that this is a big problem and that has to be deal by everyone. Therefore, in the name of cartoon, you will read in this second edition of Brazilcartoonews an interview with the cartoonist Rahim, creator of C.I.E.C, which is now a reference for participants of salons and, more importantly, a lot of help for the jury. We even did a poll with organizers of events of humor about cartoons and cartoonists alike (that are not unusual) that win contests for design of humor. The brazilian cartoonist Mattias, author of a controversial column in Brazilcartoon, Rats of Hall, talks about the father of plagiarism. The great father cartoonist Pena is also one of the interviewed by the portal. That's it! As strange as it seems this edition has more texts that designs. Even if a picture is worth a thousand words ...Until the next Brazilcartoonews!

Czeck cartoonnews magazine e-GAG reaches 50th issue with the recent edition
The vice-president Czech Union of Cartoonists, Ivan Hanousek is the editor of the weekly electronic magazine e-GAG that reached number 50 with the recent edition dated 11.12.2008. It is 16 color pages now in Microsoft Word format. CONDITIONS OF ENTRY PLEASE NOTE : THIS IS NOT A COMPETITION
1. Open to female artists over the age of 18.
2. All Entries must be received by 28 Feb 2009
3. Title, Medium & Artist Name must be stated on the reverse of the work.
4. The number of Entries is limited to 2 per artist.
5. Work must be original and can be either colour or black & white.
6. Maximum size no larger than 400cm & 550cm.
7. Entries must be ready for framing but NOT mounted.
8. Entries not to be donated will be returned by mail.
9. With the signing of Entry Form the artist gives permission for reproduction of work in the media for publicity purposes.

3rd Exhibition of Graphic Humor FECO Spain: Evolution or Creationism?
RULES1. Theme: EVOLUTION OR CREATIONISM? 2009 has been designated as ‘Darwin Year’ due to is the bicentennial of Charles Darwin’s birthday and his book ‘The origin of species’ is 150 years. His work excludes God to explain the mankind presence in the Earth versus the creationist ideas that refuse evolution and try to explain the mankind’s divine origin according to Reverend Paley’s theories.
2. The contest is open for professionals and amateurs.
3. Deadline is on 28th February 2009.
4. A jury of qualified experts will make a selection of the works which have been submitted.
5. The selected drawings will be exhibited at “La Llotgeta Exhibition Hall” of the CAM in Valencia, between April 23rd and May 29th 2009. From this date, it will be a travelling exhibition in several cities. After that, the artists will be able to ask for their drawings to be returned to them.
6. Drawing size limits: A4 (210mm x 297mm) or A3 (297mm x 420mm). The works with different sizes to these ones will be disqualified.
7. Maximum number of drawings per artist is 3, black & white or coloured, without text. Any kind of style and technique will be accepted.
8. Every drawing must be signed at the back with the following information: name, address, phone, e-mail, and the work’s title.
9. The drawings must be original. Digital drawing will be accepted with the author signature. Copies will not be accepted.
10. Once the exhibition and the travelling one have finished, the organization will returned the original drawings to the authors that have asked for it. The digital works will not be returned.
11. A catalogue will be edited with all the selected cartoons. Each selected author will receive one copy of the catalogue.
12. Send the drawings to: FECO-España. C/ Cooperativa San Fernando, 7- 8ª. 46007. Valencia (Spain).
13. It will be indispensable to send the entry form and a short curriculum vitae along with the drawings.
14. The organization does not assume responsibility for damage or loss of any drawing for reasons beyond its control.
15. The drawings can be given free for the organization of the Exhibition to be part of an International Documental Funds of Graphic Humour. All of them will be deposited for their preservation, spreading and study in a Valencian institution. The authors who want to be part of this Funds must express their authorization in the entry form. The Funds objective is the organization of periodical and travelling exhibitions, the catalogues publication and the foundation of an international documental archive about the graphic humour where the author rights and intellectual property will be respected.
16. Accepting these rules means the cession of the author rights to the organization, only for the exhibition spreading, the catalogues edition and the travelling exhibition. Reproducing the selected works will not have any cost for the organization, since the catalogues and the travelling exhibition will not have any lucrative purpose.

Frederic Chopin’s Smile: Cartoon Competition by Muzeum Karykatury - Poland
The Museum of Caricature and Cartoon Art in Warsaw is organising a competition for a humouristic/satirical cartoon, which is provisionally entitled "Frederic Chopin’s Smile". The competition, followed by an exhibition will be a part of Frederic Chopin’s 200th anniversary celebrations in 2010. Entries can refer to the composer himself and his work as well as to the social/political situation in your own country or the world generally. Entrants may submit up to five cartoons each, maximum size being A3.There are no restrictions in terms of techniques used, computer generated images are also acceptable.
Prizes: Overall prizes will be worth around 20,000 euros and in addition there will be a number of sponsored awards.
The detailed rules and conditions of the competition, conforming the deadline for submitting entries, the date of the announcement of the verdict of the jury and the exact details concerning prizes and awards will be posted on our website on the 1st of June 2009.
The museum will host a post-competition exhibition, sometime in the first half of 2010.

The characteristics of Obama, his victory and the expectation of change are all relevant factors to sharpen the cartoonists’ pencils from all around the world.
We want to prove that the creative power of humorists has no limits. And so the many contradictions of the human beings.
The conflict between passions and hates continues to mark the lack of enforcement of human rights in more than half the world's population!
How does the "new lord of the world" will do? Or undo? Or redo? Or not-do?

Annual meeting of the Association of Cartoonists in Turkey held in Istanbul
The 35th annual meeting of the Association of Cartoonists in Turkey is held in Istanbul on Saturday, 29 November 2008. According to the regulation, the new yearly executive committee members are elected and once again Metin Peker and his list swept the board having no rivals and receiving little criticism.122 members attended the annual meeting and the new executive committee members received the following votes: Metin Peker 118, İbrahim Tapa 111, Aziz Yavuzdoğan 111, Kadir Doğruer 110, Kayıhan Fırat 107.
In 2009 the Association is to celebrate the 40th anniversary of its foundation. And in 2010 Istanbul is to be one of the European Capital of Cultures, along with Essen (Germany) and Peç (Hungary). It seems there is a lot to do for the new team and that won't be easy.
